Merging from disparate musical backgrounds, the band united under the moniker Thought Beneath Film; an homage to Emily Dickinson’s famous poem. Having known each other since grade school and later encountering one another in the Southern Ontario music scene, brothers Brian (guitar) and Brent Wirth (guitar/vocals), Andrew McDermid (bass/vocals) and Paul Ciancone (drums) have reunited with the same goals and aspirations. After months of writing and recording a handful of demos, the Wirth brothers made several attempts to jump-start their new musical project, but struggled to find members who shared the same passion and drive. Inevitably, their frustration led them to reach out to long-time friends Andrew and Paul to ultimately complete the sound and establish a solid line-up with a mutual artistic vision. Drawing from a diverse spectrum of influences, ranging from the guitar driven sound of the 90’s to the modern indie-pop of today’s Canadian music scene, Thought Beneath Film has created an honest representation of themselves and their musical tastes.
Having accumulated years of Canadian and American touring experience through past projects, the band’s members are no strangers to the road. Now, in the wake of their new release, Marsupials, a five-song EP, mixed and mastered by Toronto-based producer Jon Drew (Alexisonfire, Arkells, Tokyo Police Club), the group plans to hit the road once again to support their latest efforts. Driven by their persistence and passion, Thought Beneath Film seeks to win over audiences one at a time with energetic performances, catchy riffs and an honest, no-strings-attached brand of indie-rock.
