Supernova.com has been lucky to see a savage flow of amazing talent coming through its gates this year. From local favourites to breakthrough artists, 2010 has been a phenomenal year for us in working with awesome new emerging talent.
And so, we've rounded up a short list of some of our favourite acts from 2010. Most of these Supernova.com artists hit the stage with us this year, and all have a growing fanbase that points to a bright future in 2011. But most importantly, they all bring a unique sound and passionate character to their music... giving us something that really stood out in 2010.
In no particular order of "Awesomeness", I give you Supernova's BEST OF 2010:
This Rock, Metal, Alternative band from Kleinburg was formed amongst elementary school friends, and has taken a ton of Supernova awards and honours. Their track Artificial Escape is among our staff reviewer favourites for 2010!
Casino hails from Montreal, with a layered indie rock sound that is often typical of much more experience bands. Their songs I've Been Waiting, and Apple Shaped Heart have held steady positions on the Supernova charts, earning the relatively young band plenty of well-deserved new fans.
There's no denying the popularity of this Oshawa band, nor their dedication to living the "metal life". With a handful of Supernova victories under their belt, Into Exile has risen to the top of our fan favourite list and stayed there. We're looking forward to lots of new music from them in 2011!
Another chart topping artist who is newer to Supernova would be Neon Grey. This Rock/Alternative band from Toronto features deep vocals and rich instrumentals, and have several tracks that show great development; check out Ovis Ares and others on their profile.
Table 21 set out to produce their first ep in 2010 after only a year of songwriting, and came up with an impressive effort. Their track Parasite shows this band's great potential, while Karma and Chosen demonstrates their lyrical and vocal versatility. Definitely worth a listen!
2010 was a massive year for Black Hat Villain, with a massive digital release and a Top 3 finish at Fox Vancouver Seeds. Supernova's community has taken a real shine to these BC rockers, and BHV has quickly become one of the more frequent faces on the music charts; My Generation and Rain or Shine took top spots.
Ok, now for something COMPLETELY different... the raunchy Hip Hop/Techno rock of The Grease Theifs. Despite their extreme NSFW content and grammatically skewed band name, I just love the 'creativity' that goes in to this band's tunes. You've been warned, they're not for everybody. But this is one of the funniest bands living on my permanent playlist :)
Though still in the process of recording their first professional EP, Stoned Moses has managed to get our attention with their demo tracks. With skilled instrumentals and a fantastically confident sound, this is a band to watch for 2011 and beyond... their track Devil's Rodeo is a great example of the bluesy ambiance this band brings.
Another favourite at Supernova, and less than traditional indie band outfit, is Robot Goes Here. This energetic Punk/Electro group has some great distinctive originals, plus cool covers with a twist. Their track When the Well Runs Dry is worth a listen!
Last but not least and direct from Los Angeles, we have the all girls group Stars at Night. With a melodic Alternative Rock sound, this indie outfit mixes modern synth with high energy drum-driven original tracks. Our favourites from 2010 include Your Destiny and Breathe... and we expect much more from this group in 2011!
