Description

It's been a long time coming, but the debut full length release from Atlas Collapses will finally see the light of day in the not so distant future. Atlas Collapses is the collaboration of David Sponaugle (Vocals/Guitar), Paul Cimolini (Bass/Vocals), and Booth White (Drums). These three have been playing music ever since they were kids and are quite excited for the album to finally be available for the masses. David has played in groups such as Open, Parachute!, Italian Edition, The Lady Esther, Christopher Arruda, Natalie Germann, Pod of Orcas, Primate and Young Teeth. Paul has put in his own time in projects such as Stereoplane, Three Hour Midnight, Hidell and The Eggmen. Booth White has played in such groups as Open, Parachute!, Shifted, Wilson Pascoe, Counting Heartbeats and Vince Vaccaro. They have played in numerous other projects spanning many genres of music, which has allowed them to share the stage with such artists as ZZ Top, Alanis Morissette, Thrice, Finger Eleven, Protest The Hero, Teagan and Sarah, Hawksley Workman, Hot Hot Heat, Marianas Trench and Faber Drive. Atlas Collapses was initially a project formed under the name "The Jato" and only featured David and Booth. They were both interested in forming a new project as others came to an end and the first rehearsal took place on Oct 18th, 2008 in Victoria, BC About 15 songs came of that rehearsal and half of them made it onto a home-made E.P. that had a very small run and were sold at a few local shows only. The duo worked with a few different bass players as David worked on singing lead vocals for the first time ever. Eventually, long-time friend Paul made his way into the project, and it was then that Atlas Collapses officially formed in early 2010. The band's sound was taking a different direction from that of The Jato and when the music was ready, the decision to record an album was made. Rather than record demo's and aim towards a full length over time, the band had an incredible opportunity that they could not pass it up. Producer and long-time friend, Jim Blair, signed up to record the band's first release. The band wrote the entire album in about 3 weeks, and then started pre-production shortly after. Jim's Friend & engineer, David Kean, who is the President and Founder of The Audities Foundation Studio in Calgary, AB was commissioned to record the full-length album on some very important and rare equipment. The Audities foundation is an organization aimed at the preservation of the world's most significant and important electronic/acoustic instruments and recording equipment. A few of the artists to use the equipment now at Audities are: The Beatles, Led Leppelin, AC/DC, Queen, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, XTC, Genesis and Radiohead to name a few. The album was recorded live to tape as a full band which helped not only capture the live feel, but also gave the final product a certain warmth and magic. The album was recorded from Aug 15th-19th, 2010. It took almost two years after the initial recording to complete the album. IT IS FINISHED. When you sum it all up, there is a love and appreciation for making and performing music amongst these three individuals, and it was important to stay true to that until the end. Atlas Collapses is ready to start the next chapter and push forward. http://www.atlascollapses.com/
