Meet Sister Says....meet Gillian and Robert Thomson. The sister and brother writing duo from Vancouver are known for their intimate shows as a duo as well as their epic performances with their full piece band. Their music is best described as original quirky soul-pop with just a taste of jazz. As a duo the band is vocals, electric bass, synth, drum machines and programming. As a five piece band the music comes alive with vocals, electric bass, electric guitar, drums and keys. As a duo and full band they perform the Vancouver music scene at venues such as The Backstage Lounge, The Biltmore, The Railway Club, Canvas Lounge, Rocky Mountaineer Station as well as the Wise Hall. In May 2008 the two enjoyed a mini tour in Beijing to help kick off the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games with the Four Host Nations. They performed at the BC Pavilion, Kerry Centre Hotel as well as the Central University of Nationalities. The tour resulted in a number of gigs from Vancoc in the Vancouver area. At the beginning of February 2010, their debut album “The Only Way” was released. The album is filled with lush arrangements and heart wrenching lyrics that are tied together by Gillian's breathy alto vocals. The recordings feature Vancouver and Toronto's finest. Hailing from Vancouver, Jeff Younger on guitar (Family Stump), Sam Cartwright on drums (A Ghost to Kill Again), and Rick Hopkins on organ (Colin James). From Toronto, Robert Piltch on guitar (Blood, Sweat and Tears), Davide DiRenzo on drums (Jacksoul), Bryden Baird on trumpet (Feist), Rakesh Tewari on drums and percussion (Digging Roots), Wendy Solomon on cello (Bowfire) and producer Donald Quan on various percussion, piano, viola, theremin...etc (Loreena Mckennitt). During the 2010 Olympic Games, Sister Says performed at the Aboriginal Pavilion a well the Roundhouse at The Talking Stick Festival. Currently they are recording their next album as well as performing in Vancouver. They look forward to performing local festivals throughout the summer.
"Sister Says presents a unique combination of controlled, killer vocals from Gillian, great grooves and arrangements from Rob, and a musical sophistication that seems to be well beyond their years. I’m betting that these two are going to break, and break BIG onto the Canadian and international scene in the near future."
