Eliza Smith is becoming one of the hottest hip-hop and R&B phenomena on the west coast and will no doubt be taking Canada by storm very soon With tours in North America and Asia as well as features on
radio including “Best of BC” on Virgin Radio, this 24-year-old who grew up off the coast of B.C. on
Gabriola Island, has the sultry vocal styling that rivals many mainstream musicians of the genre.
No newcomer to music, Eliza has been singing since she was three-years-old, and performing shows since the age of fourteen, as well as writing songs. As she performed more shows, she gained recognition for her innate talent, and she was often asked to sing back-up, and sometimes lead, in the studio for other artists.
The turning point in her life came when she was 18, and was faced with the sudden, devastating loss of her brother, the person who had always been the most encouraging of her musical talent. She almost considered giving up, but instead turned her efforts to starting a non-profit organization called "Ride Free." This abled her to put on seven benefit concerts over the past three years to raise funds to build a skate park on Gabriola Island to provide young locals a place to skate and have fun without being forced to leave the island, and face the dangers and pitfalls of the big city.
Soon after, she formed her own band, "Midnight & Eliza" and was performing gigs on a weekly basis, sometimes several times a week, and working in the studio. Eliza writes her own songs, giving them a distinct feel. She draws her inspirations from events in her own life, or those around her.
Eliza is currently touring in Asia with the group Dropzone International and working on her debut solo album. Keep on the lookout for more ELIZA and follow the growth of this talented, soulful, songstress.
