Devan

There is something arresting about Devan’s music. His songs have been described as melancholic with a triumphant and rebellious edge. Bluesy chords and subdued lyrics are interrupted by powerful and soaring, yet honest, melodies. Like very few others, Devan can capture the simplicity of a beautiful existence, torn asunder by the confusing complexities of life such as politics, social pressure and pop culture. Vancouver born and raised singer/songwriter, Devan loves life in all its difficulty, often singing about life’s madness with passionate commitment. A love ballad here, a protest manifesto there, He expresses the range of human emotions with honesty. Devan’s songs describe his dreams in a society ripped apart by greed, and heartache, yet he has forged a style of music that is both unique and refreshing. He has an art for performance and is often revered for drawing in his audience with his emotional and gentle commanding presence. Growing up in a musical family, Devan picked up his dad’s acoustic guitar at the age of 17. He is a self-taught musician with 8 years of experience. Devan is dedicated to performing at such venues as The Bourbon, the Roxy, the Media Club, The Railway Club and the Backstage Lounge and has a large consistent draw. He believes in a strong musical community and will open or headline for other Vancouver talent. Devan is an activist for charitable cause and has played at such events as White Rock’s Semiahmoo House Society in a fundraiser for autistic children, a recent Benefit for Haiti, and the upcoming fundraiser for The Ride to Conquer Cancer. Devan released a self-titled, five song EP in 2008 and is currently working on another independent, full-length album.
