I'm a singer songwriter and musician from Barrie, Ontario. I write and record all my own music in my home studio. I've been lucky enough to be apart of a number of bands, groups and other musical projects, as well as having the opportunity to work with some very talented people.
I've been working on this solo project of mine for about three or four years now, and I have released two CD's. The "Ashes EP" (recorded in Collingwood/Blue Mountain) in the summer of 2011 and the Hollow Heart EP (mostly recorded in Barrie) in the fall of 2011. Both are available on Itunes, CDbaby.com and a number of other stores online. On both albums I play all the instruments and did all the recording and production, something I started doing when I first began writing and working in a solo fashion.
I tend to gravitate towards the acoustic guitar when it comes to my own songwriting, although I do play a number of other instruments including bass, drums (percussion), piano, harmonica and saxophone. I've just always been most comfortable writing and playing the acoustic, even when I was playing in metal and punk bands, or filling in other roles in a band I always found it easier to write on the acoustic first.
The idea of having a solo project actually came about unintentionally when I was about fifteen playing in a band I founded, after growing frustrated with creative differenced between myself and members of my two prior bands, one which I left the other which kicked me out. The band was a punk-ish band with some heavy riffs as well as some very melodic choruses, unlike in the past I was doing a majority of the songwriting and all the vocals, giving me more then enough freedom and practice at songwriting. After a while I decided we should include an acoustic song in our "set list", which would turn out to be "Foot Prints". After the band split the following summer I picked up where I had left off with the acoustic "one man band" feel of "Foot Prints" and two other songs I had written that year called "Ashes" and "Inside".
Over the next three of four years to follow I continued writing and recording for what I referred to as my solo project, performing at school whenever I could, and playing the odd gig in the area around my home town. Of course along with working on my own music I would also go on to play in a few more bands in high school, the two church choirs, and the school concert band. When I got out of high school I joined a metal band called Salience and had a chance to do some small tours and meet a ton of other musicians.
In February of 2011 Salience took an indefinite hiatus, and four months later we played what would be our last show. Not long after the finalization of Saliences breakup I released the Ashes EP featuring seven of my own songs which I had recorded over the last three years. With the momentum of finally releasing a CD I got back to recording as soon as I could and only a few months later I released the Hollow heart EP.
As of right now I am currently writing new material and considering some re recording my songs from the two EP's for a full length release some time in the next year or so. I am always looking for places to play and people to play with, so I'm just looking for the next step I'll take musically.
