After the dust cleared from the demise of his previous death metal band Kilyaki, singer/songwriter, Wes DeLeeuw was at a cross roads. Deleeuw had been hammering away in the Calgary metal scene for the better part of a decade and to putting it mildly, was feeling quite jaded and in need of something new. DeLeeuw had a handful of acoustic songs that had been written over the years that he had always wanted to turn into something new, more then they were. Now was the time, this was his chance, and he wasn't about to take the same old steps into nothingness. Not knowing this mind set was shared, one sweltering night in June, sitting at his computer, he received a phone call from and Old friend...
This old friend was Keith Branston, wanting to know what DeLeeuw's plans were post Kilyakai. Eager, it didn't take long to cut to the chase, DeLeeuw told Branston that the plan was to turn his acoustic songs into a 4 peice band with himself on vocals, and right away they clicked on this idea, then got a hold of his life long friend, Nate Blacker, to slappa da bass, and called his former guitar players younger brother, Brian Porteous to hit the skins. Once all the spots had been filled, talks of rehearsal were in the air. A couple band names were thrown around but Brimstone Rise, which was taken from an old acoustic song that DeLeeuw had written years prior, was chosen unanimously. Once a rehearsal space was found, BSR got to work and after only 3 months of grinding away in the basement, BSR was ready to do shows. They did their first show on October 8th 2010 with a much approved welcome, and at the risk of sounding cliche, the rest is history...
BSR have accomplished a lot in the 7 months of existence, from playing shows throughout Calgary and recording a 5 song E.P. with the amazingly talented Casey Rogers. BSR hopes their music will inspire and help others to inspire.
