Barron S started her singing career in the kitchen of a basement suite; recording vocals through a cut up pair of pantyhose into a $30 dollar microphone. Born and raised on the East Coast of Canada, Barron always knew that she wanted to perform, however she first followed this passion by studying dance. She enrolled in intensive training programs and it wasn’t long before she was advanced placed in Simon Fraser University’s acclaimed contemporary dance program. Just as Barron felt her path was carved out and she was ready to take her skills to the next level, tragedy struck as she was hit in a high velocity car accident. Suddenly lost, having been thrown from her path of performing she was forced to reevaluate everything in her life and try to find herself again.
Being driven and hard working Barron began a soul-searching journey leading her to explore other ways of expressing herself. “Not being able to dance was like being a painter and having your paints taken away, when I started singing and writing music I felt like someone had given me my colors back” Her struggles pushed her to find her true calling and she soon released her first album, appropriately titled “Starting from Scratch” (2008).
Barron S has a matchless pop sound, which has been described as a modern, electronic version of the Cranberries crossed with Fiest. Though her debut ablum crosses genres, her signature sound remains a funky fusion of dance and rock. This signature sound has made her first single “Pull a Winona” a success, winning “Best of BC” on Virgin Radio 95.3 fm.
In 2009 Barron S released her first music video for her single "The Push" featuring hip-hop artists The Sketch Bros (myspace.com/thesketchbros). The track is described by Stuart Derdeyn of the Vancouver Province Newspaper,
“This is a seriously radio ready modern rock track with crossover potential for pop hits programming too. You’ve got your rap/sung vocal banging into a hook sung by a woman with that ever-so-Metric-ish waver at the tail end of all her words. Everything about the tune is familiar, but that doesn’t change the fact that a lot of effort went into the production, the arrangement and the instrumentation here. Plus, gotta give ‘em credit for keeping it short, simple and precise.”
Barron S is currently playing live with DJ Mary Mac and funky, live drummer Travis Nelson. The three performers deliver their show in waves, knowing when to blend as a cohesive unit and when to use their skills to musically battle each other on stage. Barron S creates a high-energy live show, giving her all to each performance, along with her group members. This has allowed her to play such events as the “All In Energy” Celebrity Poker Event (hosted by Danny Masterson and Jayde Nicole), the BC Lions Street Party, Vancouver Fashion Week, and New Music West.
Barron’s future is bright with much more to come. After her performance at Canada’s premier music festival, Canadian Music Week (Toronto, ON), she is scheduling a Western Canadian Tour to hit clubs and festivals summer 2010. Look for her current single and video “The Push”, which is also scheduled to hit Much and Much More Music in 2010.
