AWAKENER

Awakener is a one-man music project formed officially in early 2007, by a young man named Tom Vander Kam, who currently resides in White Rock, B.C. Canada. Behind the multi-genre fusion of primarily Classic Rock, Blues, Folk, Funk, Metal, and too many sub-genres to name, lies a great deal of talent and several years of experience on the guitar, drums, and vocals.
"I started playing guitar in October of 2005" says Tom. "I never really knew that I would start to actually take music this seriously."

After playing a multitude of venues in and around the greater Vancouver area, including The Cloverdale Rodeo & Country Fair, the Spirit Of The Sea Festival in White Rock, and The Rusty Gull, a pub in North Vancouver where artists like Bryan Adams and Lee Aaron started their careers, as well as releasing a full length album and numerous EPs recorded both in his home studio and at the prestigious Rock Beach Studios, Tom now has a great deal of experience in many fields involving the music industry that most young men his age would never even dream of having.

"It's really cool to be able to get up on stage and entertain a whole audience" said Tom. "Just the feeling you get when there's that many people cheering for you, laughing at the jokes you make, and singing along to your songs, you know?"

When asked how it feels to have released an album, Tom replied "Its great! I've actually sold quite a few copies of the CD, and of course that's really cool, too, just to know that people will pay for your music" laughed Tom.

Tom took 1st place in 2009's THE REPUBLIC II Battle Of The Bands, 2nd place in the Surrey City Jam contest back in April, and was a finalist in the BC Junior Talent Search in 2 separate categories.

When inquired about which musicians have influenced him the most, Tom replied "Everbody! My style is heavily influenced by Neil Young and Johnny Cash, but other than that, I've drawn a little bit from almost every band I've ever heard."
